JDF Walk for the Cure | |
"WALK FOR THE CURE" is a worldwide walkathon event benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. It is the fastest growing walkathon program in the world. This year, over 150,000 men, women and children from 3,000 large corporations and local companies will participate in 142 walks around the world.
"WALK FOR THE CURE" is expected to raise over US$15 million in 1995-1996 for diabetes research.
Diabetes is one of the most prevalent and pervasive diseases of our time. Approximately 16 million Americans suffer from diabetes and its complications, which include heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, loss of nerve function and amputation.

Easy Steps To Cure Diabetes |
1. Sign Up!
For the date and location of the Walk nearest you, contact your local JDF Chapter. Call 1-800-WALK-JDF (USA) or (212) 785-9500 to obtain
a Walk registration form. Then fill it out and mail it in.
2. Raise Money!
Tell relatives, friends, neighbors, and businesses about the Walk
and ask them to sponsor you by making a contribution to the
Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Collect their donations as you sign
them up!
3. Walk!
Bring your sponsor form and collected pledges with you to WALK
FOR THE CURE. Turn them in and enjoy a great day of walking
for a good cause with your family, friends, and teammates.
4. Feel Proud!
After the Walk, experience the feeling of pride and satisfaction
that comes from knowing you were an important part of a
nationwide effort that raised millions of dollars to help find a
cure for diabetes in this decade.
Approximately 16 million Americans suffer from diabetes. Worldwide, it is estimated that there are between 100 and 120 million people with diabetes. Heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, loss of limbs and nerve damage are just some of the complications that are associated with diabetes. An estimated 170,000 people in the United States will die from this deadly disease and its complications this year alone.
The number of diabetics is increasing each year. Insulin is a treatment, not a cure. The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International was founded in 1970 in order to support and fund research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Researchers are hopeful that it will be found by the end of this decade.
You can! So can your friends, family members and co-workers. By participating in this year's annual WALK FOR THE CURE, you can help us raise funds that will go directly toward vital research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Through fundraising events such as this, JDF International has funded US$211 million in diabetes research since 1970.
All walkers raising US$50 or more will receive a "WALK FOR
THE CURE" T-shirt the day of the Walk. All walkers
raising US$250 or more (turned in within 4 weeks after the Walk)
will receive Mary Tyler Moore's "Power Stride" Walk
