Greetings from paradise!
The JDF Chapter in Sarasota-Manatee area is less than 2 years old, but we are making an impact in the area. Our mission is to support and fund research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications. Locally, we offer educational seminars, a speaker's bureau and a support group for families dealing with diabetes.

Our calendar of upcoming events:
Entertainment Coupon Books are available for $30. These fabulous 2 for 1 coupon books are good at area restaurants (fancy to fast food), theater and other activities. They are valid from September to December 1997. The books make a great gift for the Holidays. Call to order from Alice, 941-383-3343.
Support groups will be up and going during the school year. We try to provide a balance between educational content and a chance to share feelings about the stresses of life with diabetes. Our primary focus has been families of kids with diabetes but we are planning to expand and offer adult type 1 group. For support group inf., call Kathleen at 941-922-5017. They keep a separate mailing list so let her know if you would like to be included in support group news.
Newly diagnosed? We have people who are willing to chat with you. It can be an incredible adjustment for you and your family. Please call Kathleen at 941-922-5017 and she'll find someone for you to talk to. If it is a newly diagnosed child, we look for a similar aged child to speak to.
Fashion Show planned for Thursday, Feb. 24, 1997 at Jacobson's St. Armand's Circle, Sarasota. It will include a continental breakfast and feature some of our Board Members as models. For more info call Margaret at 941-966-1582.
Walk for the Cure, our 3rd annual will be on Saturday, March 15, 1997 at Siesta Key Beach. Our first year (in the rain) we brought in $40,000. Our 2nd year more than doubled our success and brought in $84,000. What can we do this year ?? Help us and see how incredible the results might be.
We need many volunteers to make this event a success. Pledge sheets will be available by February. We encourage people to collect from friends and neighbors. We are also seeking corporate sponsors and corporate teams. We also will need volunteers to help us with mailings and detail work. For info on the Walk call Meg at 941925-9500
